Class Description

What makes a show great? What immerses the audience in a story and makes them feel connected to whats happening on stage? CHARACTER! From key roles like Belle in Beauty and the Beast right on down to cameo appearances like Chef Louis in the Little Mermaid, everyone on stage helps to create the world through their character. This class will focus on the building blocks of character step by step.

Emily Shuel

I grew up performing in choirs and skits at church and school, which I loved, but after I was in my first play at age 11 (playing Anne in “Anne of Green Gables”), I was hooked! After graduating with a drama degree from the University of Washington, I began teaching as well as acting. I’ve taught with Taproot Theatre, Village Theatre, Stone Soup Theatre, Shoreline Public Schools, and now CYT! I also continue to work professionally in the area, both on stage and screen. I joined Taproot Theatre’s touring improv team in 2011, and became the Associate Director of Improv last year. This winter, I will be understudying roles at ACT Theatre for their annual production of A Christmas Carol.
